The UAE has announced a key shift in their regular weekend days from Friday and Saturday to Saturday and Sunday along with half day off on Friday, which will result in a shorter workweek. The new weekend was conceived in an effort to further align UAE’s economy with its global markets and attract foreign talent and investments.
From 1 January 2022 onwards, the UAE will move to the new weekend policy. The public sector, including ministries, federal establishments, government offices, and schools, will be operating from Monday to Thursday, 8 hours a day, while on Fridays, work timings will be shortened to 4.5 working hours on a flexi-time basis.
The official working days and hours have been set to be from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM on Mondays through Thursdays. Fridays will see UAE residents working from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM. The Friday prayers and sermons will be held after 1:15 pm throughout the year across UAE.
The new shift in the weekend is aimed at boosting productivity and better work-life balance of the employees. The new working week will better align the UAE with global markets, reflecting the country’s strategic status on the global economic map, and is designed to smooth trade, financial and economic transactions with other countries.
The government has urged the private sector to utilise the UAE’s new working week system in creating a healthy environment that boosts employee productivity and stimulates business growth.
Considering the facts of creating a healthy employment and better employee productivity; Wehbe Insurance Services is also planning to stay aligned with the new weekend system as announced by the government.
The move is expected to boost not only trading opportunities but also add to the flexible, secure and enjoyable lifestyle the UAE offers to its citizens and residents. With this key shift, the nation has also become the first in the world to set up a national working week shorter than the global five-day week.
Wehbe Insurance Services LLC is also welcoming UAE government’s new system of weekend. As a part of adopting the new weekend system to Wehbe’s company policy, we would like to take feedback from all employees of Wehbe Insurance Services.
